THE NORTHSIDE CUSTOMS COLLECTION: Over Two Dozen Original Muscle Cars and Resto-Mods Selling with No Reserve

LOT #1353 – 1969 CHEVROLET CAMARO ZL1 – NO RESERVE
During the 2023 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction, January 21-29 at WestWorld, a select group of vehicles from The Northside Customs Collection will be offered with No Reserve. The collection is composed of over two dozen unique and collectible cars and trucks. Despite the addition of “customs” in the collection name, this select group of cars includes some top-notch examples of original muscle cars, both modern and classic. Original muscle cars have seen an uptick in popularity again, while Resto-Mods continuously attract incredible attention at auction.
Among the collection’s original muscle examples, the top offering is a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. This special Camaro is No. 61 out of 69 cars produced. The ZL1 was ordered through the Central Office Production Order, or COPO as it is commonly known, and comes powered by an all-aluminum 427/430 horsepower V8 engine mated to a M21 4-speed manual transmission and a 4.10 posi-traction rear end. This Camaro was also optioned with D80 spoiler equipment and an AM radio. It comes with a Jerry MacNeish Certificate of Authenticity.
LOT #1033.1 – 1948 CHEVROLET CUSTOM COE PICKUP – NO RESERVE
Other Bowtie beauties in this collection include a 1948 Chevrolet COE pickup, a 1955 Chevrolet custom hardtop powered by a small-block engine topped with a 406 B&M supercharger, a 1957 Chevrolet Nomad powered by an LS3 engine and equipped with a tilt steering column and electric windows, a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split-Window Coupe equipped with a 327/340 horsepower V8 engine and a Vintage Air system, a 1966 Chevrolet Chevy II Nova custom wagon powered by an LS1 engine, a 1969 Chevrolet Nova SS 396 equipped with a 4-speed manual transmission, a matching-numbers 1972 Chevrolet Super Cheyenne pickup powered by a 400ci big-block engine and a 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 known as the “Blue Devil.”
The collection also includes a 1987 Buick GNX with only 488 miles from new. The GNX offered is No. 463 of only 547 produced for the Grand National’s final year of production. Dubbed the “Grand National to end all Grand Nationals,” the 3.8-liter turbocharged V6 engine was rated at 276 horsepower and had a 0 to 60 mph time that was 1.5 seconds faster than the standard Grand National and over 2 full seconds quicker through the quarter-mile. The GNX utilized a different turbocharger with a ceramic turbine and more efficient intercooler, which gave it an increase in performance over the standard Grand National variant.
LOT #1353.1 – 1970 PLYMOUTH HEMI ‘CUDA – NO RESERVE
The house of Mopar is represented well within this collection. Topping the offerings is a 1970 Plymouth HEMI ’Cuda and a 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. The HEMI ’Cuda is finished in In Violet with a white interior. The muscle car has been optioned with the legendary 426ci HEMI engine hooked to a 4-speed manual transmission and Dana 60 rear end. The car is one of just 284 HEMIs produced in 1970 with a 4-speed transmission. Meanwhile, the Dodge Demon is one of only 3,300 examples built for 2018. It is powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine producing 840 horsepower and comes finished in Billet Silver, making it one of just 88 with the color, and has a red interior. According to the consignor, the vehicle has 43 miles from new and the Demon crate is included in the sale. Also offered is a second 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, a 2016 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and a 2010 Dodge Challenger Drag Pak, which is car No. 48 of 50 built. The Challenger Drag Pak does not have a vehicle identification number, as it was intended for race applications only and not everything on it is DOT- or EPA-approved.
Two standout cars from the collection include Ford Mustang Boss 429s representing the 1969 and 1970 model years. The 1969 Boss 429 is one of 857 Boss 429s produced for that year. It is finished in Wimbledon White with a deluxe black interior. The car from 1970 is one of 500 produced that year. It is finished in Calypso Coral with a deluxe black interior. Both Mustangs received Ford’s semi-hemispherical-headed V8 engine, factory-rated with 375 horsepower, hooked to a 4-speed manual Toploader transmission.
Other vehicles from the collection wearing the Blue Oval include a 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 428 SCJ Drag Pack and a custom 1952 Ford milk truck built on the television show “Texas Metal” with a 6.0-liter Ford Power Stroke turbo-diesel engine. The custom build utilizes air-ride suspension, and it rides on a set of 24-inch billet wheels.
LOT #1032.1 – 1956 DIVCO CUSTOM MILK TRUCK “MILKINIT” – NO RESERVE
Additionally, the collection includes a custom 1956 Divco milk truck known as “Milkinit” and a 1940 Willys pickup. The milk truck is powered by an LS engine, sits on a custom chassis and is equipped with 4-wheel disc brakes and many billet components. The Willys pickup features an all-steel body and is powered by a 548ci big-block engine topped by a 671 supercharger. The interior features Simpson race seatbelts, a Pro-Stick shifter and a big fuel cell in the back.
Another standout offering from the collection is a 1999 Shelby Series 1 that comes from the original owner and has less than 100 miles on it. The collection also includes a 1989 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am with 298 miles from new. What makes the Turbo Trans Am unique is that it is one of 1,500 cars built in 1989 and comes powered by a 3.8-liter turbo V6, which was the same engine that was used in the 1987 Grand National. Additionally, the collection includes a 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am that has had the engine redone and a 1986 Jeep CJ7.
