Again in the early-2000s, I to start with listened to rumors of “The Coffin.” Initially campaigned in the 1950s, it was created all over a steel Product T roadster system and a 1932 Ford frame. Even though the parts ended up uncomplicated, the configuration manufactured them memorable. How so? Effectively, the engine was in the bucket and the driver was enveloped inside of a full hood.
It is a single of people automobiles that you in no way fail to remember. Before this 7 days, a photograph of it popped up on Instagram. I have found a handful of images of it through the years, but I recognized I have hardly ever really analyzed it. The car was gorgeous—it experienced little panels in the facet of the hood you could glance out of, but you couldn’t see the driver. That’s why they named it the Coffin.”
There’s no denying that Card’s Coffin was on the cutting edge in the late-’50s. The full set up is downright menacing, and it will have to have taken some severe engineering to kind out the steering and brakes. If I recall properly, it was highlighted in Hot Rod Journal in 1958 or 1959. Does anyone have a copy of the short article helpful? I’m confident I’m not the only 1 who would really like to find out far more.

Verify out the Coffin at the 5:48 mark. Up till the time of producing, I experienced often assumed it was black. Looks terrific in coloration, doesn’t it?
