Mercedes unveiled the first-ever electric Maybach at the Shanghai Motor Show. The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV uses the platform of the EQS SUV and comes with the optional two-tone paint.
Unveiled as a concept at the Munich Motor Show in autumn 2021, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV is the first super-luxury electric SUV and the first electric Maybach. As with other Maybach models, two-tone paint is optional. The traditional black-panel radiator grille with vertical chrome plated chrome strips is entirely closed. A full-width chrome bar with Maybach lettering stretches across the car’s width above the headlights, and the lower side air intakes have the Maybach logo etched into them.
The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV does not have the Maybach logo on the hood but the Mercedes logo. From the side, The Maybach version is characterized by the chrome surrounds on the side windows and chrome-plated center pillar, while the Maybach logo is emblazoned on the rear pillar. At the rear, the taillights are connected by a light bar that spans the car’s entire width. The super-luxury SUV runs on 21- or 22-inch light-alloy or forged wheels.
Inside, the Hyperscreen is standard and has some exclusive features when the Maybach mode is engaged. Rear passengers get MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment system with 11.6-inch displays on the front seatbacks and a tablet in the center armrest that allows you to select and change the navigation destination even from the rear seats.
The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV is equipped standard with high-class Maybach Exclusive Nappa leather upholstery in espresso brown/balao brown and optional with Maybach Manufaktur Exclusive Nappa upholstery in white/silver grey pearl. The leather upholstery is combined with Manufaktur brown open-pore birch and brown open-pore walnut wood inserts.
The standard configuration is with two individual Executive seats in the back with ventilation, massage, and neck and shoulder heating functions. A calf massage and Chauffeur Package are also available.
An optional First Class Rear configuration can be ordered where the center console extends to the rear. In addition, rear passengers benefit from four USB-C and two HDMI sockets, optional refrigerated compartments, two coffee tables, and silver-plated champagne goblets.
Mercedes promises exceptional sound insulation thanks to encapsulated front and rear engines, while the front axle is doubly decoupled via rubber mounts. So passengers can enjoy the outstanding sound of the 15-speaker Burmester 4D system offered as standard.
The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV has adaptive air suspension with 35 mm ground clearance adjustment and 4.5 degrees (optional 10-degree) all-wheel steering. In addition to Eco, Sport, Off-road, and Individual modes, Maybach mode is also offered, replacing Comfort mode and offering supreme comfort for rear passengers.
Unlike the Mercedes EQS 580 4Matic, the two permanently excited synchronous motors develop superior power and torque. This results in a total power output of 658 ps/649 hp and maximum torque of 950 Nm/701 lb-ft compared to 544 ps/536 hp and 858 Nm/633 lb-ft in the EQS 580 4Matic. The large 107.8 kWh net battery offers a WLTP range of up to 600 km/373 miles and can be charged at DC stations with up to 200 kW in 31 minutes from 10 to 80%. Alternatively, it can be charged at A.C. stations with up to 22 kW (9.6 kW in the U.S.). Provisional WLTP consumption is between 22.5-24.4 kWh/100 km, possibly due to the fact that the Maybach version has a front engine decoupling mode when more power and traction are not needed.
