Hyundai KONA SOP Set for End of November, Released Early Next Year

Today we want to share with you a new information about the upcoming second generation Hyundai Kona. Codenamed as SX2, the new Kona will start its production at the end of this month at Hyundai’s Ulsan plant. Hyundai will enlarge its Kona production from current Ulsan Plant 1 to both Plant 1 and 3 expecting a higher demand of the new generation.

What we know so far?

We can see the design of the front bumper as well as the grill and the lights. A new detail is that the Hyundai Kona gets a similar light stripe on the bonnet as the Hyundai Staria. We also had the chance to get a picture with the passenger door open, where we can see the design of the door interior. This Kona prototype was benchmarking against a Volkswagen T-Roc.

The next generation Kona will carry over with the same powertrain, offering both petrol and all-electric powertrains. In this case the Kona prototype was a petrol powered version. Its EV sibling is codenamed SX2e EV, with ‘e’ denoting Europe, that we already spied.

Also the codename SX2 N Line has been mentioned, indicating that Hyundai will continue to offer the next generation Kona with a sportier styling package and performance enhancements for the enthusiasts.

Some rumors say that this new Kona could actually replace the i30 family in the Hyundai line-up given the fact that the entire i30 range was outsold by sister brand Kia’s XCEED, a crossover that shares Hyundai Motor Group’s K series platform with the i30. People wants crossovers and SUV’s as for now and that’s not likely to change in a while.
