Beat the order queue for a Hyundai Kona Electric – buy this one at auction and support a great cause

Local Melbourne community radio station, JOY 94.9, is offering the chance to bid for a brand new electric car as part of the station’s 2023 fundraising efforts


Getting your hands on a new electric car has become a game of patience, with the order queues for most models stretching into months.

Melbourne community radio station, JOY 94.9, is offering a brand new 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric Elite (standard range) as part of a fundraising auction.



The car, valued at $54,500 before on-road costs, features a 39.2kWh battery and has a claimed range of 305km. The single electric motor offers a maximum output of 100kW and 395Nm, and at the car’s maximum DC charge rate of 100kW, can be recharged to 80 per cent power in around 20 minutes.’

The auction, on 14 September 2022, can be attended online or in person, but you do have to register your interest beforehand. The event will be held at the Victorian Pride Centre, 81 Fitzroy St, St Kilda VIC.

Other goodies up for grabs include a collection of rare wine and whiskey, and even a chance to co-host a show on the station.



JOY Media, which manages the JOY 94.9, is a not-for-profit LGBTIQA+ community support organisation. Funds raised from the auction will go toward supporting the organisation into 2023 and beyond.
